Back In The Saddle Again

It's here! It's here! My new large format scanner is hooked up and working like a charm! I'm so excited by this turn of events that I'm going to share the very first scan of artwork with you.

This image is a penciled page from EMPTY CHAMBER. I still have to add some clouds in the 4th and 7th panels. But this puppy is pretty much ready for inking.

Woo Hoo!! Time to go scan some more!!

jason,

i stumbled here from jason rodriguez' blog, although i believe i've seen you around the isotope boards as well. but, i gotta ask... what is your large-format scanner called & where did you get it? i'm getting a bit tired of commuting to kinko's to shrink my pages for scanning....

Murm,
It's a Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB. It'll fit a whole 11x17 page in. I got it through Ebay. The link below is a current Ebay auction. They're the same company I got mine through. They Ship fast and respond to e-mails quickly, too.

Thanks for stopping by!

Jason -

Great page, man, well paced. As usual. What page is this? How far into the story are you? ADL was saying that this will be ready to go by next summer.

Thanks, J-Rod.

Yeah, my part (pencils and inks) in this book should all be done for early 2006. ADL and I are going to look into getting this coloured. We'll have to make sure we get the right person for it though.... If we don't get it coloured, it will definitely be grayscaled. We'll probably have to get on this soon, so that the whole book is indeed ready for the summer.

This page is page 40.

Nice stuff as always! This is looking to be great!

(psssst....don't forget the people waiting for your schedule to open up so you can draw their shapeshifting man of action in a pedal to the metal action story where he's on the run from the Yakuza in Tokyo.)

The Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB rawks! I bought one a little over a year ago.

Kel -- watch out, bro. I'm gonna take him for Fist of Justice. ;)

Back, dogs, back! You all can have him when I have bled him dry and have left him to the vultures.

(From an editorial perspective, I just made myself cringe -- Likening you to both dogs and vultures. Poor misuse of metaphor there...)

But, yes, Jason indeed rocks, Jackie is indeed a trouble-maker, and Empty Chamber will be ready in some form for 2006. Mark those calendars and start saving your shekels now, folks! :-)

P.S. Once he's done with E.C., I hope Jason does take you up on these oppostunities. He's too damn good to go to waste!!

I will try to fit in all the great projects that come my way, but as ADL will attest to, I'm not the fastest artist in the sandbox. I am working on getting faster..... thus the shift from my usual drawing style to the looser one..... plus I'm gaining more confidence in my work with every page. That makes it easier, somehow. Just knowing that the pages will probably look good (in my humble/critical opinion) before I sit down helps me go faster.

What did Dave Sim say..... first you get good, then you get fast, then you get good and fast.

I'm somewhere in the middle right now.....toot toot

Was that me tooting my own horn?!
:)
